  1. Have you noticed how posh and middle-class art students squat really big mansions and have features done on them in arty magazines? Or that similar demographic squatters create plans to 'regenerate' their tenement squats to benefit themselves? Or that migrant squatters hide away in more derelict squats and try not to draw the attention of the police? Or that more poverty stricken squatters sometimes don't have the articulacy and confidence to deal with cops, courts and others? Who gets to feature in articles that portray the 'positivity' of squatting? Is it the ones more likely to feel at home having their pictures up in mags and blogs or the ones who just want to have somewhere to live?

  2. CALL TO ACTION

The Government want to sneak through the criminalisation of squatting, which will be voted on in Parliament this Tuesday 1st November 2011.

Over 95% of responses to the ‘consultation’ on squatting were against the criminalisation.
Despite this, the government is still going ahead with their proposals - effectively bypassing democracy.

SQUASH have tried engaging with the democratic processes but despite overwhelming support to not criminalise squatting we have been ignored.

Our only rational response now is to call for people to TAKE ACTION. We have been forced into this position. See you on the streets!
